Line Of Sighting In World of Warcraft PvP

Using Line of Sight in World of Warcraft PvP is key for both melee and caster classes. As a caster you want to maintain the most clear line of sight possible. Only cast your spells when you are fairly certain that the opponent can not Line of Sight you and hide behind a pillar, wall, or rock in the battlefield. Good PvP players will try to do this to you all the time, so a good way to prevent it is to CC the class before you start your casts. Mages and Elemental Shaman often get kited around the battlefield unless they have mastered this tactic. On the other side of this Line of Sight concept, are the people that are trying to avoid the casts. To do this effectively takes a lot of practice and a good sense of your whereabouts. Melee classes often have to deal with this more often than casters and should make this a top priority when fighting 1 v 1 or in a group.

Try to start your battles close to objects for you to hide behind such as walls or rocks in the battlegrounds. When you see the target is going to cast a long spell, run behind the rock. It's as simple as that. This will interrupt their cast and cause them to waste vital time. You can even turn this into a game of ring around the rosie until you feel that they are in a good position to launch your attack, or until your cooldowns run out. If you are a caster and you see someone do this to you, you should try to crowd control them with something that is an instant cast such as Fear, Frost Nova, or other slowing effects. If you are trying to get closer to an enemy and have something such as a pillar in between you, you can weave back and forth cause the caster to attempt to cast on one side and then the other.

This frustrating to play against and is one of the most common ways for melee classes to get close to casters. If you are the caster in this situation you should try to move backwards and take the pillar out of the equation. Less objects to get in your way is always a plus. A wide open battlefield is a caster's best friend. These tactics can also be applied when fighting melee vs melee or caster vs caster. This should be mainly used when you are waiting for a cooldown to come back and you need to bide some time without taking damage. Practice these tactics on a daily basis and you will become a master at defeating many players with gear much better than yours. Someone that knows how to properly line of sight is a huge pain to play against.
