Cataclysm WoW Dungeons - Tanking Tips

Being the tank in a raid or heroic group is quite a heavy burden. If you drop your guard for one second, if you make the slightest mistake, the whole group may wipe. That's why you should be prepared for anything, at all times. Therefore, here are a few tanking tips for the Cataclysm WoW dungeons.

1. All tanks have at least one spell that can interrupt spellcasting. Although interrupting mobs isn't the tank's job, sometimes the DPS players in your group just slack at interrupting and this might lead the group to a total wipe. Paladins have Rebuke, DKs have Mind Freeze, Druids have Skull Bash and Warriors have Pummel. Depending what class you play, you must have that spell in your main quick bar, just in case, no matter in which of the WoW dungeons you are. Stun effects also interrupt spell casting. Although most bosses can't be stunned, some can. So, have your stun close at hand as well.

2. One of the trickiest bosses in the Cataclysm WoW dungeons is Echo of Jaina within the End Time. Not that she's a difficult boss, her mechanics are pretty obvious. But most tanks rush in to pull her once someone gathers all 16 crystals and she spawns. If there still is at least one pack of mobs near her spawn point, she will Blink in that pack of mobs triggering them. This usually leads to a wipe. So, if you're a tank, don't be slacking and pull the two groups of mobs near Jaina's spawn point. Take note that some of the players in the group may whine about it, telling you to skip them. Don't pay any attention to them. A tank always plays it safe.

3. Zul'Aman is one of the WoW dungeons that many players run, to obtain the super cool Amani Battle Bear mount. However, this requires the group to defeat all the bosses up to Halazzi within 25 minutes. You start with 15 minutes, but gain an extra 5 minutes for each boss you defeat. It's not quite an easy job, and as a tank you must play your part with quite a bit of finesse. However, even if your tank is well-equipped and you know the instance pretty well, it's important to keep an eye on your healer. If you that the healer can't keep up with the rush, always ask someone to crowd control a target, for things to go smoother. If you don't wipe at any of the bosses, you should have no problem in reaching Halazzi and defeating him before time is up. Also, popping up a Flask of Steelskin and a tanking food isn't a bad idea, to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Now, there's much more to tell about WoW dungeons, when it comes to tanking. However, if you want to tank, or play any other role as a pro, it's best to learn from the pros.

For that, you can start with a guide for PvE and WoW dungeons.

Best Power Level Strategies for WoW

One of the most popular questions about World of Warcraft is power leveling. Power leveling means advancing your character's level faster than might normally be expected allowing him to become more powerful. When your character power levels you receive better player achievements, HP points, as well as overall strength, damage, and magic.

So what is the best way to power level in WoW? There are many gaming companies' claiming their product will help you power your way through levels faster. Some of these services are legit, many are not. Remember that no matter how good of a strategy your leveling system may be, or how skilled of a Warcraft player you are, you must play the game for your character to power up their experience points. Remember playing equals experience which makes you a more skilled player. Steps to take to power level in WoW:

If It Moves, Kill It

When you are sent to an area to complete a quest, whether it's stealing pumpkins or killing, go above and beyond the call of duty. Kill everything that moves. This will take longer to complete a quest, but you will gain more experience and items, which are important to power leveling.

If you are in an area where enemies repopulate quickly, stick around until their loot drops dry up. Once their loot drops to grey move on to the next quest area.

Stick Around Till All Loot Be Found

Time is important in WoW and traveling will kill your time. Unless you have reached level 40, you need to concentrate on individual zones and clearing them all out before moving on to another area. By concentrating on individual zones you maximize your quest completion and gather more loot along the way. Using a guide can help tremendously when planning your strategy for attacking a zone. A good guide can walk you step-by-step through a zone allowing you to make the most of each quest which helps you power level quicker.

Find the Yellow Fellow

The only enemies worth killing are yellow enemies and above. As a newbie stay away from the orange or red kills. It takes a certain skill level to kill these enemies. Work your way up to these kills. Concentrating on yellow quests will allow you enough experience points for your efforts, and allow you opportunities to gain quest skills in more difficult levels.

Time to Till the Ground

Whenever you see a farm, stick around for a while and kill the enemies which populate the farmland as they repopulate. As long as the enemies you are killing are yellow level, they will be a good source of quick experience and loot. As they repopulate, knock them down until your bags are full then move on.

Go For the Gold

Selling items, especially those which you have made with your chosen professions, is a great way to make sure your character has the gold they need to keep their skills leveled up, and to ensure that they have the proper gear. You can buy, and sell, loot in the auction house.

Auction houses are a key component to power leveling your character. Make trips to major cities a part of your routine, and always check with your local auction house for anything you might want or need to ensure that you find it at the best possible prices.

Get a Job

Too many players waste time collecting goods to raise their professions to learn how to make more stuff. If the items you are making aren't usable, because your level is too low, or you are not in the right class or lack the skill to use the item, then you should not be in such a hurry to make these items. Everyone wants to have a high profession skill level as quickly as possible, but these skills are supposed to progress with your character.

However, when you are ready to boost your professions nothing beats having lots of money from questing and farming, so you can buy the necessary items from the auction house and boost your skill levels 5 to 10 points at a time. Look for the skill which uses the least amount of items in its preparation, or the cheapest items to buy from the auction. Then buy these items and power level your professions!

Wax On, Wax Off

Make sure you are constantly working on your skills. The auction house provides an ample supply of weapons and armor, mostly green but some blues, which will keep your character current. This is important in terms of weapons, because you want to keep your DPS (Damage Per Second) as high as possible

Let's Go Play

WoW is a massive online role playing game that is being played by thousands of people around the world. The game can become overwhelming if allowed, but a good guidebook, as mentioned earlier, can make your gaming experience more enjoyable. Guide books walk you step-by-step through the zones breaking them down by enemies and their levels, and easy to follow dots which show all the key areas to fill in on your zone map, taking the guesswork out of questing and finding new areas to use as power leveling grounds. If you have a guidebook, you know how easy it is to look this sort of stuff up and map out your questing.

Why Downloadable Content Will Replace the Compact Disk

After administrating dlcnews.com for some time I have come across several interesting facts regarding how DLC, that is 'downloadable content' is affecting the video game industry. There has been blatant consumer testing, some ethical and others not so ethical, some costly and others free. But all of this has been leading up to something. Something big and I'm composing my evidence today in this article.

Steam Changed PC Gaming Forever

Valve and co took a shot at digital content. I remember it was "a vehicle for Half Life's episodic gaming." By the way, where is episode 3? Steam commonly offers weekend deals and other discounts for sales on older games. We've seen major titles for $9.99 for a limited time. Not only has Steam proved that the digital marketplace is lucrative for developers but the community enjoys it this way.

Xbox Live and Microsoft's DLC Based Success

Last week Minecraft broke the first record of DLC sales made my Trials Evolution back in April. Minecraft sold over 1 million copies in a week. Not only does Microsoft understand that the multiplayer aspect of their titles are the bread and butter but there is no better way to bait consumers and distribute DLC content creating revenue months and maybe even years after a release.

Next Gen Consoles and DLC

The rumors are always flying when it comes to the next generation consoles. But one major and recurring "rumor" is that removing the used game business model is going to be addressed.

Hardware is always a tell tale sign of where the industry is going. Rumors of Sony charging for multiplayer access to your game title are abound. Reports of no disk drive on the Xbox720 has popped up in several articles net-wide with evidence and the known battle between brick and mortar game shops like Game Stop and Best Buy purchasing titles on release date only have been breaking the development companies bottom line for years now. Several efforts to make peace with the game companies have kept the franchises alive for some time but it is very clear that game companies have allowed them to survive until the time is right. And as far as anyone with a business sense is concerned, Steam shows us plainly that the time for DLC to take over the hard copy is only a next-gen release date away.

Speculation Ensues

I wouldn't be surprised if the major players in the game market (Microsoft, Sony etc) have ties that they are chomping at the bit to break with Best Buy, Game Stop and the others. Once these companies decide to go 100 percent digital where will the hard copy outlets be? Also, the major developers are no doubt paying for distribution and whatever the cut of a 60 dollar game goes to Best Buy is I don't know. But these are bottom line amounts. Removing the middle man is how to increase profits. It's business 101. The internet is strong enough, the community loves digital distribution and it's more affordable for them.

Independent developers will not be stopped by lack of distribution power. Games like Tactical Intervention are releasing their game files on their website! With digital distribution available any programmer can release a game on a Steam like platform without any problems. "It is the future of gaming." - Grandma's Boy reference.

Don't Play PvP Without These 3 WoW Addons!

Have you geared your World of Warcraft character for PvP? Do you have the right spec and the right glyphs? If that's so, you might think you're ready for PvP. However, there's one more aspect that you must take into account. Your WoW addons.

The WoW addons you use for PvP just might make the difference between you and your opponents. Especially in WoW arena, if you don't use any addons, you will be at a considerable disadvantage, because your enemies surely will.

If you don't have any idea which WoW addons should you use in battleground and arena, here are a few ideas.

1. Cooldowns. Just as its name suggests it, this addon tells you the cooldowns of your abilities. The timer until your abilities will become available again is displayed on those particular abilities. Without the addon, to know a certain ability timer, you must hover the mouse over it. In arena, that will slow you down by a lot. Also, knowing at just a glance, exactly how many seconds there are until your PvP trinket is up, for example, can make a huge difference in arena. This addon is quite useful for arena. I'd say it's a must if you want to achieve high ratings.

2. Gladius. This is an addon specially designed for arena. It's actually a unit frames addon focused at this type of WoW gameplay. It allows you to see better the HP and casting bars of your enemies and of your team members. But the most important thing about this addon is that it tells you when your opponent(s) have their PvP trinket up, or on its cooldown. Knowing if an enemy can remove Fear, Sheep or any other movement impairing effect is crucial in arena.

3. Deadly Boss Mods. Ok, don't shout at me for putting this addon here. I'll tell you in a second exactly why it's on my list. Even if its name screams "PvE", this addon is very useful in WoW battlegrounds, and in some of the arena chambers. This addon's main feature is to tell you what a raid or instance boss is going to cast, for you to be ready to take cover. However, in battlegrounds it tells you the cap timers of the objectives. It also gives you an estimation for the remaining time your team, or the opposite team has, for winning the battle. Knowing the objectives timers, and the end-battle timer helps you in making a better decision on which objective to attack, or which to defend. Don't forget to share that information with your allies.

Now, these 3 WoW addons are really useful in PvP. But, to be able to play like a real WoW arena pro, you should use their WoW macros and keybindings. Of course, there are addons which contain quite a database of pro macros and keybindings for any class.

So, if you want to take a look on some of the best WoW addons for macros and keybindings, just follow this link.

Also, if you want to level as quickly as possible, or learn the best gold making techniques in the game, the best in-game guides are here: WoW Addons.
